Origami STEAM!

This week we put the “A” in STEM making it STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Yes, it was a challenge creating origami art with K-5 students, but what I loved was none of the students gave up or quit although they became very frustrated at times. Besides engaging in critical thinking skills, problem solving, and creativity, we had a mini math lesson on geometry while creating origami frogs, pigs, dogs, and fortune tellers with math facts. We discussed various shapes, lines of symmetry, and angles. We even had a frog jumping contest to see which frog can jump the farthest distance. Students had no idea they were entering my math class! 😄
